Christmas Main Streets in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area

If you are still looking to get into the holiday spirit while doing your Christmas shopping, try shopping local this holiday season and enjoy a small town atmosphere at one of the area’s small town Main Streets.  While Dallas is a thriving metropolis, you don’t have to go far to enjoy a piece of small town USA in town squares that are less than 45 minutes from Downtown Dallas or Fort Worth, but are a world apart.  Visit McKinney, Waxahachie, Carrollton or even Granbury and shop local while also enjoying a unique holiday atmosphere.

Granbury

Holiday decorations went “live" the Friday after Thanksgiving following the lighted night Christmas parade in Granbury, but this quaint little town just 45 minutes outside of Fort Worth is definitely worth a visit.  Granbury’s vendors and restaurants on the square are open for busy and in the holiday spirit through the month of December.  Indeed, Granbury’s Downtown Historic district is pure holiday magic with thousands of twinkle lights and decorations to enjoy.  Learn more at granburysquare.com.

Waxahachie

South of Dallas about 30 minutes, the City of Waxahachie kicked off its holiday event with a tree lighting last week, but that was just the beginning.  Visit the town square and enjoy not only holiday shopping with antique shops and specialty boutiques, but town square restaurants that offer a good old holiday tradition vibe.  For more details visit www.waxahachiecvb.com.

McKinney

The holiday season is definitely alive and well in McKinney.  With the Home for the Holidays kick-off the day after Thanksgiving, a McKinney Christmas is the best way to add to your Christmas celebration.  The popular snow hill is back this year and of course, Santa is on hand for the children.  On December 18 and 19, Heard Museum’s Holiday Trail of Lights is the special attraction.  And, from December 18 to 20, it’s the Third Monday Trade Days.  Third Monday Trade Days is one of the largest flea markets in North Texas featuring more than 450 vendors. It is held the weekend before the third Monday of each month, Friday through Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and parking is $5 on Saturdays and Sundays before 3 p.m.  Admission is free — what a great way to get that last minute shopping done. 4550 W. University (U.S. Hwy. 380) in McKinney.  Learn more here: www.tmtd.com.  Also that weekend in McKinney, it’s the Old Red Lumberyard & Treasure Spotters junk markets at 600 E. Louisiana in the Flour Mill District.  www.visitmckinney.com

Carrollton

As one of North Texas' quaintest and most inviting town squares, the City of Carrollton is all dressed up and ready for Christmas. The downtown area of Carrollton will be offering Santa opportunities for the kids on December 19 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the Square. Overall, the Square itself has a great "Main Street" feel for the entire holiday season — it's a fun place to stroll, shop and eat.  Surrounded by fun local shops including Blooms Candy and Soda Pop Shop, Silver Star Mercantile and The Home Store for last minute Christmas shopping, Carrollton has some excellent options for the holidays.  For more information visit cityofcarrollton.com.

Happy holidays!
